Join a community of Houston-area music professionals making great music together.
Cypress Winds is an all-volunteer adult concert band made up of Houston-area music educators, private teachers, and working musicians who come together for a rewarding, high-level large-ensemble experience.
We are looking for current or recent music professionals who value musical excellence, preparation, and collaboration. Members are expected to maintain a high level of musicianship and professionalism and to attend rehearsals consistently, with no more than one absence per concert cycle.
We maintain membership waitlists for each section and a substitute list for musicians who are interested in playing with the ensemble when opportunities arise. Even if there is not currently an opening for your instrument, we encourage you to apply!
Applications for consideration for the December 2026 concert cycle are due October 2, 2026. Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis for our substitute and membership waitlists.
The Application Process
1. Complete the Application
Fill out the Cypress Winds Sublist & Waitlist Application with your contact information, instrument, professional background, and rehearsal availability.
2. Submit Your Recordings
Applicants submit two short recordings:

One-minute lyrical selection

One-minute technical selection
Selections are your choice and should showcase your current playing. Both the musical difficulty and quality of the performance will be considered.
3. Application Review
Cypress Winds leadership reviews your application materials and recordings to determine possible placement on the our membership waitlist and/or substitute list.
4. Opportunities to Play
When a membership vacancy or substitute opportunity becomes available, musicians are selected from the appropriate list based on the needs of the ensemble and the qualifications of the musicians on the list.
